Wreck at 110m, great dive, lots of soft corals

6 oktober 2013

Today was a little bit a surprise. We had planned a 110m dive, but we didn't know if it should be on a wreck or  a reef. It all depends on the weather. The day before they said, we think it will be a reef. But today in the morning it was a surprise, it would be a wreck. It was raining, the first time I saw rain in Malta. The sea was not totally flat, but okay.

I was not really nervous for this dive, just a little bit of course, but that was good to focus. Backgas filled with 11/65, 230 bars. 17 minutes bottomtime, total divetime 138 minutes. Then a travelgas and 2 decogases. Heavy stuff on a small rib. But once in the water, no problems at all.

The way down is long, if feels like it never ends, but then we see the wreck. Beautifull, my deepest wreckdive ever and normally my deepest dive ever. I have been 2 times at 100+ and 1 time at 110m.

The wreck is full of really big white softcorals. Lots of fish too, some are really purple. And a lot of salpen (Thaliacea). In shapes I have never seen before. The soft corals are beautifull, never seen before. Not in Gozo on same depths, not on 75m wrecks in Malta. The current is really mild, almost nothing. So that makes the dive easy. And then time to go up again. Every minute staying here will make big troubles to get up. So we cannot stay longer. The way up will take 2 hours. But it was not boring, and then after surfacing we could say, yes, great dive, nice wreck, nice corals.
